We’ve got a treat for you this Christmas! Cream Buns and Crime, my Murder Most Unladylike series companion, is finally coming out in audiobook on Boxing Day, the 26th December 2019!

This is something that people have been requesting for a long time – but of course, it’s not as simple to record as my full-length Murder Most Unladylike Mysteries because Cream Buns and Crime is a mixture of short stories, essays, quizzes and recipes. In fact, to do it properly, we’d need a whole range of voices – not just Katie Leung as Hazel, but someone to play Daisy, Alexander, Beanie and George …
And that’s exactly what we’ve finally done! We have a FULL CAST of voice actors reading Cream Buns and Crime. Katie Leung, of course, is back as the voice of Hazel Wong – but for the first time ever, you’ll hear Daisy Wells, read by the wonderful Rebecca Lee. You’ll also be able to find out what Beanie, Alexander and George sound like – they’re read by Nicola Stanton, Alexander Capon and Hormuzd Todiwala.
If that wasn’t exciting enough, I have one more surprise for you. If you’ve read Cream Buns and Crime, you’ll know that there are parts of it that I wrote in my own voice. So when it came to decide who should read those bits … it seemed pretty obvious that I should do it myself!

Last month I got to visit the Penguin audio offices in London, and record my parts of Cream Buns and Crime. I read the Golden Age of Detective Fiction article, as well as The Books that Made Murder Most Unladylike, the recipes section and the quiz – as well as a few other little things! I had a lot of fun, and it helped me see my writing in a whole new light. I want to say a big thank you to Richard, Roy, James and the whole Penguin audio team, who have been so brilliant.
I can’t wait for you to hear the finished audiobook! It’ll be published on audio download on the 26th December, but if you pre-order it now it’ll go straight onto your device on Boxing Day, perfect for post-Christmas blues.
This is the last announcement I have for you in 2019. But in 2020 I’ll be back to reveal the colour, full cover and title of MMU9, as well as a few other little things. I think you’re going to be pleased to hear about them all!
Hi Robin,
I can’t wait to get it on Audible!
Was it just you narrating or were there other people? I bet it is going to be grate whoever narrated it.
It’s a full cast – so people will read each of the characters who narrate sections. We finally get to hear what Beanie, Alexander, George and Daisy sound like!
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!
Yay!!
There is something quite strange but also fascinating about hearing the voices of your characters!
When I read any book, I always have what they sound like in my mind and how I imagine the settings to look like. That’s why it would be so great to have a television or film series of your books because essentially the portrayal of them, is from the vision of someone else!
Yes, it’s really lovely! I imagine my books like films too, so I hope that one day I get to see the TV or film versions!
Hello Robin,
Such exciting news! It looks like you had a wonderful time narrating Cream Buns and Crime! I have the paperback copy of it and I love solving all the codes in it- I even used some of the codes mentioned to create my own escape room!
