Last night I went to see @danyahmiller’s The Mystery at Little Angel Theatre, an interactive murder mystery play for everyone 6+ that I was a writing consultant on.

It was such an amazing experience seeing something that I helped with find an audience - the kid I was with was completely hooked, and even though I knew exactly whodunnit I loved seeing the story come to life. I’m so proud of Danyah and the team, and I really hope that if you’re in London and you have a young detective you’ll make the trip to Islington this autumn. It’s well worth the visit - especially if you’re a fan of my books! The show has my fingerprints all over it …

I was sorting through my books this afternoon and

I was sorting through my books this afternoon and stumbled upon this and was FLOODED with feelings. This was one of my very favourite picture books. I used to just stare and stare at the beautiful illustrations - those lupin flowers! The landscapes! - but it was the message of the story that really got me. I’ve never really had to struggle to work out the shape my life should take, because I was told what I needed to do aged 4:

- go to faraway places
- live by the sea when I’m old
- do something to make the world more beautiful

I very genuinely have been living by these rules for 32 years now, and I think I’m doing okay so far. But isn’t that incredible! A four year old child had this book read to her, and it shaped the whole rest of her life. I gave a speech to the @uksla yesterday about how important stories can be to children, and how adults can use them to pass down kindness and care and love from generation to generation, and here’s an incredible example of that. I don’t know the person I would have been if I hadn’t read Miss Rumphius, but it certainly wouldn’t be this particular version of me. Thank you, Barbara Cooney.

WILDLY cool to see @chriswiegand’s write up of @danyahmiller and @littleangeltheatre’s new play in the @guardian! I was so proud to consult on the whodunnit plot and leave my fingerprints all over the story, but of course the real geniuses behind it are Danyah, Dani Parr, Kate Bunce and the rest of the team.

It’s on at the Little Angel until 17th November, and then it’s touring around the country - if you’ve got a young detective in your household, do your best to go see it!

*screams* IT HAPPENED.

Sorry for being so quiet on here this week but I FINISHED. THE BOOK. AND READ THROUGH IT. AND PRESSED SEND ON IT TO MY EDITOR @natalieldoh. I have never NEVER written a book this quickly. I don’t recommend it! I had all my usual breakdowns but in double time! Anyway tomorrow my puzzle book comes out and then on Saturday I’m going to @bathkidslitfest and then on Monday I think I might schedule myself a little crying time. Because I did it!!!
