We’ve got a treat for you this Christmas! Cream Buns and Crime, my Murder Most Unladylike series companion, is finally coming out in audiobook on Boxing Day, the 26th December 2019!

This is something that people have been requesting for a long time – but of course, it’s not as simple to record as my full-length Murder Most Unladylike Mysteries because Cream Buns and Crime is a mixture of short stories, essays, quizzes and recipes. In fact, to do it properly, we’d need a whole range of voices – not just Katie Leung as Hazel, but someone to play Daisy, Alexander, Beanie and George …

And that’s exactly what we’ve finally done! We have a FULL CAST of voice actors reading Cream Buns and Crime. Katie Leung, of course, is back as the voice of Hazel Wong – but for the first time ever, you’ll hear Daisy Wells, read by the wonderful Rebecca Lee. You’ll also be able to find out what Beanie, Alexander and George sound like – they’re read by Nicola Stanton, Alexander Capon and Hormuzd Todiwala.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, I have one more surprise for you. If you’ve read Cream Buns and Crime, you’ll know that there are parts of it that I wrote in my own voice. So when it came to decide who should read those bits … it seemed pretty obvious that I should do it myself!

Last month I got to visit the Penguin audio offices in London, and record my parts of Cream Buns and Crime. I read the Golden Age of Detective Fiction article, as well as The Books that Made Murder Most Unladylike, the recipes section and the quiz – as well as a few other little things! I had a lot of fun, and it helped me see my writing in a whole new light. I want to say a big thank you to Richard, Roy, James and the whole Penguin audio team, who have been so brilliant.

I can’t wait for you to hear the finished audiobook! It’ll be published on audio download on the 26th December, but if you pre-order it now it’ll go straight onto your device on Boxing Day, perfect for post-Christmas blues.
