January 31, 2020

MMU9 thumb

It’s almost time to reveal the cover colour for MMU9! A lot of you have been making guesses – and I’ve been really impressed with your reasoning. Some of you are even right …

For now, though, I can share your clue with you – a colour grid for MMU9. The colour of Daisy and Hazel’s last adventure is somewhere on this chart. But what will it be? You’ll find out on Monday at 3:30pm …

I’m very pleased to say that my Behind the Book video, featuring a Q&A, a workspace tour and a reading from the last two chapters of Death Sets Sail, is available to watch NOW on the Puffin YouTube channel. There’s a link below – I hope you enjoy it!
I’ve got a new video on the way! Behind the Book with Robin Stevens will premiere on the Puffin YouTube Channel on Friday 18th September at 6pm BST.
For the rest of September, your prompt will be resolutions. This was suggested by Detective Society member Neve – and it seems like a great choice, since this is the beginning of the school year, a time full of new challenges and big decisions.
I’ve got good news for Scottish fans – I may not be able to come visit you in person this autumn, but I’ll be able to be with you virtually! I’m teaming up with the Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour and Book Week Scotland for a week of absolutely FREE events for Scottish schools.
You have until the 6th of September to send all of your questions about the MMU series, The Ministry of Unladylike Activity, Howl the puppy or anything else you might want to know to a special email address that my publisher Puffin has set up: askrobinstevens@penguinrandomhouse.co.uk. I’m going to be answering my very favourites on a new ‘Behind the Book’ video, premiering on the 18th of September on the Puffin YouTube channel.

    1. Hi Robin,

I think my final guess is gold (but Pink would look so nice) as it is just the only colour that would fit properly with the theme and the other books:

Blue: Already used in MMU and TCOTDP but associated with Egypt
Pink: Not used already but no connection to Egypt
Green: Aready used in AFT and SOM but occasionally associated with Egypt
Purple: Already used in CBAC and DITS and not much to do with Egypt
Black: The E-books are both black and it just doesn’t fit with the theme but seen in Egypt
Gold/Sandy: Not used before and heavily associated with Egypt

  1. I am now completely confident that the colour will be GOLD!!! I can’t wait for the actual reveal on Monday. Egypt is a hot country, and gold is a warm colour (on the colour wheel in art), who knows, maybe it will have some special features like a metallic finish or sprayed edges etc.

When will the name/ full cover be revealed?

    1. I have had a brilliant idea for the name of the book! A Pinch of Life & Death. I spent ages trying to guess the title, and suddenly, I have an amazing idea! Hope you consider it if you haven’t picked the name already.
I have my reasoning written in a letter I sent to you in early January.

      1. I can’t wait!!! Are you still taking suggestions for MMU9, even though you are revealing the cover so soon?

  2. I think it will probably be the orangy-yellow one because of Egypt
I don’t think black because that’s the colour of the Blue Violet
Or purple because there are already two purple books

  3. Hello Robin,
Looking at these colours and bearing in mind my original guess, I think MMU9 will be gold!

Gold is an appropriate colour for so many reasons; mainly, Egypt is associated with gold- the mummies, the pyramids, the fashion, all the details and even the desert (sandy-gold). The Case of the Missing Treasure was burgundy with gold details and that was about Egypt (sort of) so I think gold would be a fitting colour for MMU9. Also, it would mark the end of the best series ever perfectly in gold.

I’m so excited to find out what the colour will be on Monday and even more excited to read it when it comes out in August!

  4. Hi Robin,

I am super torn between the pink and the Sandy colour as they would both for but I am leaning towards the Sandy colour…..

I think I will save my final guess for tomorrow though.

(I meant to reply to my comment not Alice’s, sorry)

      1. Oh! I accidentally missed out a part on the blue:
Blue:Already used in MMU and TCOTDP but associated with Egypt, secondary of nothing.

  5. Hi Robin,
I think the color will be probably the Gold or maybe the Navy-Blue.
As it is set in Egypt, it is most likely to be Gold. But seeing as the first MMU book was a Light-Blue, it would make sense for the last book to be a Dark-Blue.
    Can’t wait for tomorrow!

  6. Even though it is set in Egypt, I feel the gold would be to obvious, so I think there will be a controversy and the front cover will be black.

  7. hi robin, i really love your books. i bet most people say that but i am genuinely a really big fan. i read mmu two weeks after it came out. i think the new book colur is gold, but knowing how smart you are, i think you wouldnt make it that obvious for us. love from lily xxxxx

  8. I’m sure it will be that beautiful golden colour because in Egypt gold was a sacred colour and the royal family would always have gold on their outfit and they would have gold statues of their gods like Ra

I’m so excited. Lots of love stella
