Jolly Foul Play reviewed in the Sun

May 27, 2016

I woke up this morning to extremely exciting news – TWO of my books were reviewed in today’s Sun!

The first is Jolly Foul Play. Natasha Harding, the reviewer, gave it four stars, and said: ‘With enough twists to satisfy young readers, it’s an exciting story.’

I’m incredibly proud to see my book covered in one of the country’s biggest newspapers – thank you Natasha! You can read the full review below.

I’m very pleased to say that my Behind the Book video, featuring a Q&A, a workspace tour and a reading from the last two chapters of Death Sets Sail, is available to watch NOW on the Puffin YouTube channel. There’s a link below – I hope you enjoy it!
I’ve got a new video on the way! Behind the Book with Robin Stevens will premiere on the Puffin YouTube Channel on Friday 18th September at 6pm BST.
For the rest of September, your prompt will be resolutions. This was suggested by Detective Society member Neve – and it seems like a great choice, since this is the beginning of the school year, a time full of new challenges and big decisions.
I’ve got good news for Scottish fans – I may not be able to come visit you in person this autumn, but I’ll be able to be with you virtually! I’m teaming up with the Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour and Book Week Scotland for a week of absolutely FREE events for Scottish schools.
You have until the 6th of September to send all of your questions about the MMU series, The Ministry of Unladylike Activity, Howl the puppy or anything else you might want to know to a special email address that my publisher Puffin has set up: askrobinstevens@penguinrandomhouse.co.uk. I’m going to be answering my very favourites on a new ‘Behind the Book’ video, premiering on the 18th of September on the Puffin YouTube channel.

  1. Wow! You must be so pleased that Jolly Foul Play is getting reviewed so much, it’s got quite famous now! My mum sometimes does book reviews for the Daily Mail, The Daily Telegraph and The Times, I could ask her if she could review Jolly Foul Play (with a little help from me, of course) but I’m not sure if she could review a children’s book, I’ll let you know…

      1. Hi Robin,
I asked my mum if she could, and she sent an email to The Daily Mail, but they said that they would only review adult books. 🙁

  2. Hi Robin
Again this is really great, I can not believe that the sun is giving you review. However you do deserve them because all of your books are amazing. If i was a reviewer, I would give you five stars for everything!

  3. I’m very happy for you! But you definitely deserved 5 stars because I’m 13, usually reading adult books, and still love your books! They’re one of the only book series I avidly read, which means they must be 5 stars! I will make sure to be at your event at a la ronde so perhaps you’d sign my copies of your stories?

      1. Thanks very much! I can’t wait either! I just hope that someday I can work in a publishers like you used to! I really love English and it’s definitely my chosen course of study-I want to take a degree in it 🙂

        1. You sound a lot like me! Publishing is an amazing career, and if I wasn’t an author that’s definitely what I’d still do. Good luck with it!

          1. If I don’t get to work in a publishers, I’d like to open a bookshop full of cats! ? The. I can write my books as I work, in my spare time.
