Daunt Comp 2019 3 thumb

Every year, Daunt Bookshop holds a children’s short story competition, and this year I was honoured to be asked to write the introduction to the winners’ collection of stories.

I was overwhelmed by how clever, interesting, funny and inspired the fifteen winning stories were – I loved reading them, and I’m so impressed by the skill of their authors. It was an absolute pleasure to have been able to meet them at the prizegiving ceremony in London last night, and congratulate them on their accomplishments!

Below are some pictures of me with a few of the book’s authors – and its cover illustrator, Emma Chichester Clark. I asked them all to sign my copy of the book, which I’ll cherish – I’m sure they’re going to be signing their names in a lot more books one day!

You can buy the 2019 winners’ book from all Daunt stores – and I’ve got a copy to give away to one of my readers. Just comment below to say why you’d like to win it, and I’ll pick a winner on the 22nd of May. I hope it inspires you all to enter the competition next year – I know what great writers you all are!
