The magical mystery tour continues! Yesterday I di The magical mystery tour continues! Yesterday I did proof drops across Yorkshire and stood in front of three more beautiful bookshop windows. As always, let me know if YOU are a bookshop and you would either like me to come stand in front of your window or get the #AlmosttheWholeTruth proof. Or both! If you are not a bookshop, ATWT will publish in the UK from @vikingbooksuk and the US from @crownpublishing in June 2027, and I’ll be able to share pre-order links with you very very soon! 👀

My book was a coffee cup and a monstrous seven foot tall standee? Pack it up everyone, career goal reached, what else is there to wish for really. Huge thanks to @mossmontmomery for being such a fantastic event partner for my first EVER adult author event, thanks to everyone who came along and sat for an hour in that very sweaty room, and thanks to all the other authors, readers, publishers and agents who were so incredibly kind and welcoming to me. I only took a fraction of the photos I wanted to. And special thanks to the @vikingbooksuk team, especially Rosa and @emilygracefield, for creating an absolutely KILLER launch experience for me and #AlmosttheWholeTruth. York proof drop completed! A whirlwind tour of one York proof drop completed! A whirlwind tour of one of my favourite cities - it’s giving me such a buzz to see Almost the Whole Truth starting to get into booksellers’ hands. I met three booksellers who had read my books as kids, and who are now adults - very humbling but also lovely, because even though I wrote this book for all adult crime fans, I specifically wrote it for exactly these readers! If YOU are a bookshop in the UK and Ireland and you would like your own copy, let me know - you may not get me in person, but I will make sure it gets to you! And if you are not, pre-order links will be available very soon. Plus I’m hoping we’ll have lots of ways for you to get your hands on early copies!

Several authors of colour have been in touch to say that they’ve been pushed towards ‘issue’ books by publishers in a way that I never have. Most of this is entirely not calculated, which makes it much harder to deal with - everyone feels they are trying hard to do right by underrepresented authors and readers, and I absolutely do not want to point fingers at any individual publisher or bookstore. I’m proud to be on this list, but I want to also acknowledge who isn’t there, and what that says. There is so much more that can be done, and I think part of what needs to happen is a sea change in what kinds of books are allowed to be published from those underrepresented voices, and how they are supported through their careers. The greatest irony is that I know it can be done, because it’s been done in the past. We just keep forgetting how to do it.

I was going to take such a nice normal picture whe I was going to take such a nice normal picture when I saw my proof for the first time. And then I got straight off the train and opened the box and I was very sweaty and overwhelmed and @lucyayrton got these photos instead. Anyway I have been walking around doing PROOF DROPS this morning, and it has been so incredibly wonderful and exciting. Booksellers are now reading this book! A lot of them asked me what’s different about writing an adult book to writing my children’s books and my honest answer is not much except it is now appropriate for me to use a Troye Sivan song on this post. And everyone is about to find out how much I swear. It’s out from @vikingbooksuk in June 2027 so there will be more proof printings as we get closer to the big day, and lots of chances for you to get your hands on one! Swipe all the way right to see the books that I picked up during my bookshop visits. I gave away 5 copies and bought … don’t talk about it. it’s fine. I needed them.
Beyond delighted to be featured in @thestorymuseum Beyond delighted to be featured in @thestorymuseum’s incredible new Mystery Academy exhibition in Oxford! The launch was this evening, and I finally got to see everything in place. The team of young curators who put everything together have done an amazing job - as did @sharnajackson, who crafted the central mystery story! Swipe to see some (though not all) of the gorgeous MMU details, as well as a complete list of everyone involved. The exhibition will run until next summer, so there’s plenty of time to visit - and I really hope you will!
