My publisher Puffin Books have a very exciting competition for anyone who goes to school in the UK or Ireland! They’re challenging schools to get their KS2 & 3 pupils (anyone 8-15) to write a blurb of less than 300 words for a detective story – and the best will win £100 of books plus a signed set of Murder Most Unladylike for their school!
A blurb is the word for the text on the back of a book that tells you what the book’s about – it needs to have something about the setting, plot and characters, and it needs to be extremely exciting and mysterious to make people want to pick up the book and read it!
You can write a blurb for one of my books, or another author’s – or make up a blurb for a book you’ve written, or one you want to write! You can enter on your own, but I think it’s better if you tell your teacher about this competition, so that your whole class or year can be part of the fun.
