Death in the Spotlight Audiobook – read by Katie Leung!

Katie Leung DITS thumb

I have some exciting (though probably not surprising) news: my new book, Death in the Spotlight, will have an audio edition available, read by the amazing Katie Leung!

Katie played Cho Chang in the Harry Potter films, and she’s about to appear in Channel 4’s Strangers, as well as be the voice of Too-Ticky in the new Moomins cartoon. She’s super talented and nice, and I’m so honoured to have her working on my books.

I went to listen to her record yesterday in Puffin’s brilliant audio department, and it was an amazing experience. Hearing my words being spoken by another person gives me goosebumps – it’s like my story is coming to life!

The audio edition will be out on the 4th October (the same date as the paperback edition) for download from Audible and similar websites. You can also get it for FREE from public libraries in the UK and Ireland from that date – ask your librarian if you’re not sure how this works, or if you can’t see it in your library catalogue. (If you can’t afford to buy a copy in any format, by the way, please always use the library instead of pirating it. Every time you check one of my books out of the library, I get paid by the government – which means I’ll make enough money to be able to keep on writing the books you love!)

Remember that if you haven’t pre-ordered the paperback yet, you can still do that too – and if you pre-order through the Waterstones website you’ll be automatically entered into a draw to pick a name in Murder Most Unladylike Book 8! This is an amazing prize – you, or your best friend, or your family member, will get to be part of the MMU universe for ever – and I’m so pleased to be able to offer it to one lucky winner! Good luck, detectives – there’s less than a month to go now …

It’s World Book Week 2024, and I know a lot of you are dressing up as my detectives! It’s very easy to do – really, all you need to do is spruce up your usual school uniform with a tie, a hat, a crest or badge, a notebook and a magnifying glass.
The US edition of Cream Buns and Crime will publish on April 23 from Simon Kids, and ahead of that we’ve had the most wonderful review from Kirkus, the most trusted book review body in the US.
Ten years after Murder Most Unladylike first published in the UK, it’s amazing to see that it’s still arriving in new territories – and the latest addition is one I’m particularly pleased about, Spanish! El Crimen es Cosa de Damas has just published from Editorial Alma, translated by Andrea Montero Cusset. It’s out now, available in all good bookstores and online, and the sequel is on the way soon!

  1. Hi Robin,
I did not know that you get paid every time someone checks out your books! I mean, that is so cool!
Quick question; when I buy one of your books from Waterstones or any other book store, do you get most of the profits? (I am just really curious about how it all works!)

Also I am super excited that there will be an audiobook! A think it is wonderful to be able listen to books being read. I especially love podcasts – the murder mystery ones are my favourite!
When I was younger I always listened to the famous five tapes!
That is so cool someone’s names will be put into the book! That would be a real honour ?

    1. Yes, it’s great, isn’t it! I think it’s 6.6p for each library loan – which isn’t much, but it does add up.

When you buy a book from a shop (or online), I get about 7% of the amount that the book is sold for. So 7% of 6.99 is 49p, but if the book is on buy one get one half price I’d get 7% of £3.49. I’m simplifying this a bit because it gets very complicated the more you mess with the sale price of a book, but basically: I don’t get a huge amount, but I do get something for each copy sold!

  2. Hi Robin,
I love listening to audiobooks so I will definitely see if my library can get it! Have your books come out in the Chinese edition yet?

  3. Hi Robin,
Wow, it’s so cool to have Katie reading ‘Death In The Spotlight’! Also, I love the t-shirt Katie is wearing.
It’s great how all your books have been made into audiobooks so that MMU is accessible for everyone. I’m really excited to read ‘Death In The Spotlight’, it’s less than a month away!
